Texas forward Amina Muhammad grabs a rebound during the Longhorns' 77-72 win at Moody Center on Feb. 21. Muhammad, a key reserve who averaged 6.1 points and led the team in offensive rebounds, has entered the transfer portal.

After two years at Texas, Amina Muhammad will continue playing basketball elsewhere.

A Texas spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday that Muhammad has entered the NCAA's transfer portal. In an Instagram post, Muhammad explained that, "I have made the decision to enter the transfer portal in pursuit of new opportunities to continue my academic and athletic career elsewhere."

Inside Texas was the first outlet to report the news about Muhammad's departure.

A 6-foot-4 forward who can defend multiple positions, Muhammad started 20 times for Texas during her sophomore season. She led the team in offensive rebounding and averaged 6.1 points. She had a 17-point performance against Baylor in December and a 16-point, 15-rebound breakout game against Texas Tech on Feb. 21.

Muhammad's decision to leave Texas was revealed two days after former UT center Tionna Herron also decided to transfer. Herron is Muhammad's close friend and former teammate at DeSoto High School. In similar-looking tweets, both Herron and Muhammad directed interested schools to contact the same person to inquire about their availability.

The losses of Muhammad and Herron come during an offseason in which fellow post players DeYona Gaston and Khadija Faye also transferred out. Texas has limited depth remaining in the paint as Aaliyah Moore and Taylor Jones are set to return next season and 6-foot-2 freshman Justice Carlton is rated by ESPN HoopGurlz as the No. 12 recruit in the Class of 2024.

Texas coach Vic Schaefer recently told the American-Statesman that the Longhorns will host an unnamed post player on a recruiting visit this weekend. The Longhorns signed former Michigan guard Laila Phelia earlier this week.
