Temperature could hit 100 degrees in Austin on Tuesday

Tuesday forecast for Austin: Another day of triple-digit heat index values is forecasted for the Austin metro area on Tuesday, the National Weather Service says.

Daytime highs at Camp Mabry are expected to reach as high as 100 degrees, according to the weather service. The heat index, which takes humidity into account to determine how hot it feels, is expected to push up to around 104 degrees.

The high at Camp Mabry on Monday hit a monthly high of 99 degrees with a heat index of 109 around 3 p.m.

Sunny skies and high temperatures will likely continue through the rest of the week.

According to the weather service, highs will stay in the mid- to upper 90s through at least Thursday.

On Friday, the outlook calls for a 20 percent chance of showers and a drop in temperatures into the lower 90s.

Chances for showers will increase into the weekend, reaching 40 percent on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Here’s a look at the forecast for the rest of the week:

  • Wednesday: Sunny with a high temperature near 97 degrees.
  • Thursday: Sunny with a high near 95 degrees.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny with a high around 93 degrees and a 20 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms.
  • Saturday: Mostly cloudy with highs near 91 and a 40 percent chance of showers.
