Monday forecast for Austin: Happy Monday and a good muggy morning to all! The temperature as of 5 a.m. at Camp Mabry in Central Austin is already 73 degrees and is expected to only get warmer to about 86 degrees. But rain chances are only around 20 percent for Monday, so oppressive humidity may be the only real weather threat.

South-southeast winds of 5 to 15 mph will continue to bring Gulf moisture and heat-trapping humidity into the evening, keeping nighttime lows no cooler than the lower 70s.

According to the National Weather Service, the outlook for rest of the week calls for more clouds and heavy rain on Thursday and Friday:

  • Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 88, forecasters say. South southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph will help make Tuesday night also mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. South-southeast winds 10 to 15 mph could include gusts as high as 20 mph.
  • Wednesday should be mostly cloudy with a high near 90. The muggy conditions could be eased by high south winds of 10 to 15 mph and gusts as high as 20 mph. At night, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist after 8 p.m.
  • Thursday’s forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 a.m. At night, rain chances will reamain at 50 percent under cloudy skies with south winds of 10 to 15 mph.
  • Friday could also see likely showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 a.m., the weather service says. South winds continue to blow at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph, while chances of precipitation rise to 60 percent. Storms are also likely at night, but mainly before 8 p.m., forecasters say.
