Friday forecast for Austin: It’s a good news/bad news kind of morning — the good news, of course, is that it is Friday and the Austin metro area should be rain-free all day. The bad news is, we can’t always have nice things and morning commuters should experience patchy fog on the roads until about 8 a.m.

The outlook for rest of Friday calls for partly sunny skies with a high temperature near 82. North winds around 5 mph will become east in the afternoon, the National Weather Service says. At night, clouds increase as the low temperature settles around 66.

According to the weather service, though, the weekend and the beginning of the work week should be cloudy and muggy but likely not too rainy:

  • Saturday’s forecast includes a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms under partly sunny skies and a high near 85. Southeast winds around 5 mph will bring moisture from the Gulf, which typically means more clouds and humidity. At night, expect mostly cloudy skies and the heat-trapping humidity to keep nighttime temperatures above 70.
  • Sunday’s outlook also calls for a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms under mostly cloudy skies and a high near 85. The muggy weather and the 30 percent rain chance will persist at night under mostly cloudy skies and a low around 71.
  • By Monday, forecasters are still expecting a 30 percent chance of rain under mostly cloudy skies and a high near 85. Much like the night before, it should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 72.
  • Tuesday’s rain chances are slightly lower but the day should still be mostly cloudy, forecasters say, with a high near 86. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms remains at night under mostly cloudy skies and a low around 73.
  • Wednesday’s forecast so far looks like it will include a 20 percent chance of rain under mostly cloudy skies and a high near 88. Expect the cloudiness and humidity to continue at night with a low around 72, the weather service says.
